For a teenager over 5’9” who has nearly finished growing, switching to a 200 cm length prevents their feet from hanging off the end of the bed for several more years. For an adult in a studio or guest room, this is the size that combines space-saving design with real comfort without the compromise of a 190 cm bed that’s too short. The WOOD bed is made near Turin, Italy, by Luca, a craftsman whose workshop has been working with solid wood since 1952. Each piece is assembled by hand using traditional joinery techniques, without screws or metal parts. The wood used is okoumé, a soft and malleable exotic wood from Central Africa, sourced from sustainably managed forests to preserve biodiversity. The finishing vegetable oil is applied by hand, piece by piece. This is not an assembly line: it is a workshop that knows the name of every piece of furniture it makes.

One of the great things about solid oiled wood is that it requires very little maintenance. A slightly damp cloth is all you need for routine cleaning—no detergents or chemicals that could damage the natural finish. Once or twice a year, applying vegetable oil or natural wax nourishes the wood and preserves its appearance. For minor scratches, applying a small amount of oil to the area is usually enough to reduce the mark. Solid okoumé does not deteriorate over time; it develops a patina. With minimal care, the WOOD bed is designed to last well beyond its first few years.
