But the 160x190 is not a compromise; it is a deliberate choice for limited spaces where width takes precedence over length.

Two wood types are available for the 160x190 Kipli bed bases, each with a distinct manufacturing process.The solid okoumé used in the LUCA bed is a soft, malleable exotic wood from Central Africa, assembled without screws or plastic parts by Luca, a craftsman in Turin since 1952. Its hand-applied vegetable wax finish gives it a warm, vibrant appearance. The PEFC- and Bois de France-certified solid beech used in the AVA bed is crafted in northern France by Mathieu. This French wood is denser than okoumé and offers a choice between rigid or flexible slats depending on your firmness preference—a feature not available with the LUCA. Okoumé for an Italian artisanal spirit; beech for a connection to the French timber industry.

The choice of slats directly influences the perceived firmness of the mattress by as much as 30 to 40%. For the LUCA bed made of okoumé: a damp cloth is sufficient for daily cleaning, using Marseille soap or black soap if necessary—never use chemical products that could damage the vegetable-based finish. For the AVA bed in PEFC-certified beech: use only mild products—Marseille soap or black soap applied with a clean cloth—and avoid harsh detergents that could damage the natural, VOC-free water-based varnish. For the OTTO upholstered bed base: a slightly damp cloth for everyday stains, or a mixture of white vinegar and baking soda dabbed onto the linen for more stubborn stains. In all cases, avoid harsh products. These natural materials don’t require much—that’s precisely what makes them last.
