Both approaches share the same standards at Kipli—no chemical adhesives, no synthetic treatments, and handcrafted production—but they address two different sensibilities. One adorns the space, while the other structures it.

Three types of wood, three distinct characters. The solid oak used in the LIVIA bed is the finest and densest, sourced from the Haute-Marne region less than 100 km from the forest. Certified by Bois de France, it is built to last for generations. The solid beech used in the NOVA and AVA beds, manufactured in Normandy and Picardy, is more flexible and slightly lighter in color; durable and easily disassembled, it is ideal for those seeking a sturdy French wood without the density of oak.The okoumé used in the LUCA and WOOD beds, handcrafted in Turin since 1952, is a soft, malleable exotic wood from Central Africa, assembled without screws or glue, with a hand-applied vegetable oil finish. Rigid slats provide firm, even support; they keep the mattress flat, prevent sagging, and promote air circulation. This is the recommended choice for a natural latex mattress, which requires a stable base to fully showcase its properties.

The flexible slats adapt to the body's movements and provide a more enveloping feel; they are best suited for pocket-spring mattresses or for those who prefer a softer sleeping surface.

At Kipli, some bed bases offer both options: the NOVA and AVA beds, made of beech wood, let you choose based on your preferences. The LUCA, WOOD, and LIVIA beds are equipped with rigid slats.

The danger doesn’t come from the wood itself; it comes from what’s applied to it. Synthetic varnishes, industrial adhesives, and particleboard can release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) for several months. At Kipli, every double bed base is designed without chemical adhesives, melamine-coated wood, or synthetic treatments. Finishes vary by model: vegetable oil applied by hand on okoumé beds, natural water-based VOC-free varnish on oak and beech beds, and untreated natural linen on the upholstered bed base. What the bed doesn’t contain is just as important as what it does—this principle has guided every material choice at Kipli since 2018.

At Kipli, every bed frame has a home. TheLIVIA bedis made in Haute-Marne by a family-owned business, less than 100 km from the oak forests where the wood is sourced. TheNOVA and AVA bedsare crafted by Mathieu, a carpenter with a passion for beech wood, in northern France using wood from PEFC-certified forests in Normandy.The OTTO upholstered bed frame isentirely designed in the Loire Valley, in partnership with Lemaitre Demeestere, a French weaver since 1835. TheLUCA and WOOD bedsare made in Turin by Luca, whose workshop has been working with solid okoumé since 1952. Two countries, several workshops, a single guiding principle: a recognizable artisan behind every piece of furniture.

Care instructions depend on the finish. For okoumé beds (LUCA, WOOD): a slightly damp cloth is sufficient; no chemicals are needed. Marseille soap or black soap are acceptable for the LUCA. For the LIVIA oak bed: use a slightly damp sponge, but never use products containing silicone. For NOVA and AVA beech beds: use only mild products—Marseille soap or black soap—applied with a clean cloth. For the OTTO box spring: use a slightly damp cloth, or a mixture of white vinegar and baking soda for stains. In all cases, avoid harsh products. Solid wood doesn’t require much maintenance—that’s precisely what makes it a durable material.
